Bel is a goofball, which is what gives Gil such amusement in gifting him such a name. Sumerian for "Lord" or "Master," the boy King of Heroes bestows the name as a title that, in modern language, sounds rather cute and innocent.
Which helps, since Bel is about as precious and pure as can be while still being a little mischievous. Bel knows he's adorable and isn't above using it to get attention or treats, and Gil and him almost instantly learned to tag-team their cutest looks to charm people. While fairly limited so far in battle, Bel has quickly become Gil's most potent social ally.
Bel takes his position as the 'senior' of the team rather seriously, acting as leader and protector, even when he's visibly outmatched. As an Eevee This could get him into trouble, but after his evolution following a Luxray stampede, Bel's natural defenses as an Umbreon let him battle foes significantly above his level and scale. His sociability make him an apt multi-battler. Outside of a fight, he's only slightly more mellow, cuddling and generally goofing off with Gil.
Zabaniya, Niya for short, is a sassy, micheivous, conniving little devil who will usually flub things at the worst moment. Managing to catch herself in one of Gil's Pokéballs rather than put up a real fight, she made itself at home as the second member of Gil's squad.
Gil finds her mild kleptomania distasteful, and scolds her frequently to act more befitting of her station as a royal companion and cat. She takes this as permission to just take things openly instead of stealthily. He doesn't have the heart to get rid of her, because he has a soft spot for cats.
After evolving, Niya is a little less able to thieve as she pleases without her bipedal mode. She adores her new muscles and frame, however, and will generally run ahead of the group and cause a bit of mischief before coming back and telling the team about what's ahead. She also enjoys taking the smaller Pokémon on runs to see if she can spook them, but so far only Pierre qualifies, and he loves it.
Oh dear God why, run for your lives. He has Ascended and Wreaks his Vengeance upon all. In an ill advised, euphoric decision, Gil used one of his panaceas from his treasury to remove the River King's Everstones. This was a very bad decision and now he has an enormous, perpetually angry kaiju on his hands. It's big, it's mean, it hates you, and it knows Hyper Beam. Good job, Gil.
This Magikarp is the worst. An overleveled, oversized, cantankerous, unreliable, and downright mean example of the world's most pathetic Pokémon, Gil subdued it during the November 2016 Fourth Wall event using a Noble Phantasm fishing rod, netting himself a whole bag of problems. Bloated on its level advantage, His Uselessness is a bully and a half, diving into any body of water it finds to harass and beat up any local water types. Gil isn't certain it would listen to him even if he had the badges to account for the level.
His Uselessness hates everyone and everything, and will physically assault pretty much anything that moves, including trainers, breeders, other Pokémon (that it knows it can beat), and Gil himself (especially Gil). How this behemoth bastard hasn't evolved is beyond Gil's comprehension, but he chalks it up to raw stubbornness. The River King's horrible attitude reminds him too much of Gil's adult self, and he suspects whatever cruel force runs this world saddled His Uselessness upon him as a terrible joke.
With the addition of Pierre to the roster, His Uselessness has focused much of his ire on the Krabby out of a bizarre need to be The Water Type. This has had mixed results as the Magikarp's limited moveset and aquatic limitations find it many times embarrassed and outwitted by the more mobile crab.
While his bloated level advantage has afforded him much protection, after trapping the entire team in the Alph Ruins for the better part of a week he was knocked out by Reggie aggressively Sparking him for over an hour, and he has been boxed until further notice.
PIERRE the Kingler LEVEL: 57 GENDER: Male ABILITY: Hyper Cutter MOVES: Mud Sport, Bubble, Vice Grip, Leer, Harden, Bubble Beam, Mud Shot, Metal Claw, Stomp, Protect, DESCRIPTION Brave Nature, Strong Willed
Pierre was found on the beach in the Sevii Islands and immediately hit it off with Gil and crew. As a water type, he had to suffer the River King's focused abuse and disdain, something that Pierre faces with bravery and ingenuity. Not unlike a Tom & Jerry skit, Pierre usually will outwit the enormous fish with terrain advantages and by goading poor choices from His Uselessness. Pierre's favorite tactic so far is to entrench himself in small bunkers of sand or dirt, and then Vice-Grip on the King's whiskers when he beaches himself. This kind of cunning but brave fighting has endeared Pierre to Gil greatly.
The Kingler also fancies himself a bit of a photographer, and will occassionally take Gil's 'Gear for short walks and selfie sprees.
Post Evolution, Pierre finds himself huge. He can't ride on Niya anymore (or anyone for that matter), and is among Gil's largest Pokémon. He's also the only Water type worth a damn on Gil's squad, a spot he takes rather seriously. He still loves filming, though, just now he can do it entirely with his gigantic claw. Which scares Gil senseless.
Should the River King ever be let out of his exile, Pierre can casually manhandle him, which he relishes.
REGULUS The Shinx LEVEL:22 GENDER: Male ABILITY: Intimidate MOVES: Tackle, Leer, Charge, Baby-Doll-Eyes, Spark DESCRIPTION:
Reggie was picked up in the aftermath of a Luxray stampede, deciding to hang around because he was impressed by Bel's courage to stand up to an incredibly angry Luxray while the Umbreon was still an Eevee. He sees Bel as something of a role model and if he could talk would probably describe him as a "hero of justice" or something childish and cheesy in the same vein. As Gil's first electric type, he has the unique designation as the River King's disciplinarian, which has seen mixed results due to their vast level difference. He takes his training very seriously and is very enthusiastic in battle, but he is still very young and immature, often winding up crying a little while pretending not to.
Don't let his evolution fool you, Reggie is still a big dumb baby tryhard. He preens his new fur a lot in an attempt to seem refined, but usually just winds up having cowlicks and excess fluff all over.
LEVEL: 33 GENDER: Female ABILITY:Flash Fire MOVES:Bite, Roar, Ember, Leer, Odeor Sleuth, Helping Hand DESCRIPTION: A surprise from the Prom Egg, Sulgana is Gil's first lady Pokémon, first fire type, and first baby. She's extremely curious and impressionable, which leaves Gil (and much of his roster) rather protective of her, lest certain bad influences don't teach her bad lessons. She's extremely energetic and feisty, taking to battling more naturally than anyone else on Gil's team. She has a lot of big brothers, particularly Reggie who babies her just a little bit, so she may have something to prove.
Jokes on all of them, once she gets a fire stone she's going to be Xbawx Huge, and she kind of knows it.
Born from an egg spawned during an unfortuante road trip, Shamash finds herself slightly spoiled by her dad and the rest of the platoon. So far she is incredibly mellow and lackadaisical, but considering the temperament of her mother, that could change for the worse.
Jeff is a Shuckle with the express role of making juice and wine for the boy king of high functioning alcoholism. This places him at the top of Gil's priorities, so Jeff gets the absolute best care and food and berries to hold. Any and all of Gil's team who harass the bug are disciplined, and those who behave are rewarded with a taste of the bounty. Due to the time it takes, Gil is considering catching five or six more Shuckles to leave in the Box to set up a distillery.
Personality wise, Jeff is extremely slow in the sense that he is not quick to act, is very patient, and generally the chillest one on the entire team. He enjoys sitting in the sun, munching berries, and taking naps. He's rather fond of Shamash due to their shared enjoyment of being lazy and lounging around.
